My expertise in studio art is drawing. My artwork is not what one generally may expect from a cancer fighter/survivor; it is simplistic, imaginative and, dare I say
happy!
Each piece begins with a hand crafted wood panel. Using oil paints, I glaze the wood to allow the natural patterns to show through. Appropriately, these grains, made from water, become water-like designs for the setting of each composition. Once dry, the fish-creatures are freehand drawn with colored pencil atop the oil-glazed wood. Some of these creatures are spawn directly from the wood patterns themselves while others may be inspired from various elements in nature or even personal experiences. These anthropomorphized fish-creatures that I invent are extensions of ourselves: our pasts, our choices, our individualities. Each is left untitled to allow a higher level of personal connection for each viewer.
